Much has been said and written about the role of the supervisory board in today’s evolving socio-economical environments. The main trend that seems to emerge is that, in order to safeguard its well being,  supervisory teams will need to act closer than before to a company’s daily operations. This would call for rejuvenation and addition of new competencies.

Although we subscribe to the general trend, we also advocate prudence. All too radical changes in the composition of supervisory boards may prove disruptive and potentially dangerous. We encourage those who promote the value of personal networks, governance experience and, quite simply, the caliber which is needed to act as counter weight to management boards. At the same time we support those who wish to add ‘new’ knowledge, functional specialism and people with a close proximity to today’s markets to the board’s competency mix.

In short; we gladly support stakeholders who seek to balance old values with new requirements in their supervisory boards. We assist them with a careful review of their board’s composition and with gradually, not radically, making the necessary changes.
