Every minute, a truckload of plastic waste enters our oceans. And in that exact same minute, one million single-use plastic water bottles are purchased. Coincidence? We don’t think so. This plastic problem is getting out of hand. Plastic waste never disappears. It just breaks down into smaller pieces, circulating our oceans for millennia to come. We can do better.
You might know the Dopper bottle. A colourful bottle. Or actually, a bottle and a cup in one. But it’s not just any reusable water bottle. The company behind it, is making sure no more single-use plastic water bottles enter our oceans.
Dopper was founded by Merijn Everaarts. In 2009 he watched a documentary that changed his life. “I saw huge amounts of plastic making their way into our oceans, where it changes into a giant garbage patch that resembles plastic soup. I also noticed how many plastic mineral water bottles are thrown away every day, even though in many countries the best drinking water simply comes from the tap. This certainly made me feel uncomfortable. I just had to do something about it!”
Merijn decides to take action: he launches a design competition to look for “the perfect reusable bottle for tap water”. Among the 100 entries that Merijn receives, there is a striking design by TU Delft alumnus Rinke van Remortel. Its minimalist design is not only aesthetic, but also practical. Thanks to the unique design, its bottle is easy to keep clean so that you can reuse it for years, so it is sustainable. In addition, the white cup of the design, conversely, forms a cup; “To place water on a pedestal,” explains Rinke. This philosophy fits in perfectly with Merijn’s approach: tap water at number 1. It’s a perfect match and BAM! Dopper is born in 2010.
The best part about this bottle? The proceeds help Dopper to empower others to choose reusable water bottles over single-use ones, tackling every obstacle which might be holding them back from changing their behavior. By raising awareness about plastic pollution, by offering education, stimulating research and investing in clean drinking water projects where people need it the most. So choosing reusable over single-use becomes a real option in those places as well.
As you can see, Dopper is nothing less but so much more than a water bottle. Dopper is a Benefit Corporation, a B Corp. Dopper does not just want to be the best in the world, Dopper also wants to the best for the world. This means that besides profits, the organization wants to make an actual impact as well. Major steps have already been taken, and Dopper continues to strive for a better world. Where everyone can and will choose reusable over single-use to protect our world’s water sources. The bottle is the message!

As our International Marketing Manager, you are part of the Management Team and you are making sure that Marketing is no island, but a vehicle to empower all departments to contribute to the Dopper mission. O, and you will report to the CEO, Virginia.
Up for the challenge? These things would help:
- Higher vocational or University degree (marketing; communications; business administration; commercial economics);
- At least 10 years of demonstrated successful managerial experience in an international marketing management position within a fast-paced, trend-sensitive environment. Including being responsible for the Marketing budget;
- Experience with managing a multi-disciplinary team of 15+ people;
Experience in a social enterprise and/or a drive for sustainability. You want to disrupt the industry
- A connection with / passion for mission-driven organizations such as Dopper;
Extensive experience with the marketing disciplines online, PR, communication, impact marketing, events and retail marketing;
- Result driven combined with people skills;
- You are available to work 40 hours per week, but you are also flexible outside of office hours.
